The Team Player

Eva Erdmann is a Software Developer at the Munich location. She reveals here what a daring climbing tour and working at OSB AG have in common, and why adrenaline rushes and team spirit need to go hand in hand.

Eva Erdmann began working at OSB AG directly after completing her studies in Computer Science at Munich University of Applied Sciences. “I was looking for my first job and had submitted my profile on a job portal. It is there that OSB AG came across me and contacted me,” she explains. Eva Erdmann really liked the company and the job vacancy, and so she did not hesitate to accept the position.

Diversity is everything

That was already eleven years ago. Since then, Eva Erdmann has worked on three different projects at OSB AG. For the first three years, she worked in what is today’s Competence Center Off-highway Control Systems of OSB AG, where she was responsible for developing control and communication software for construction and agricultural machines. After that, she switched to the Bavarian State Tax Authority (Bayerische Landesamt für Steuern), where she worked for six years on programs for tax calculation and tax administration. For the past two years, 36-year-old Eva Erdmann has been working on her current project at the Institute for Municipal Data Processing in Bavaria (Anstalt für kommunale Datenverarbeitung in Bayern – AKDB). As a public body, the AKDB has been supporting municipalities and local authorities in the use of information technology for over 40 years.

The company develops software solutions for municipal administration in areas such as finance, HR, traffic and social affairs as well as real estate and resident management. “In so doing, we use creative ideas during software development, which we then implement based on an agile development process known as the Scrum model,” says Eva Erdmann. “The software – referred to at the AKDB as processes – which I help to develop there is called OK.EWO and is a client-server application that is used in the area of resident management. We, as Java Developers, are responsible for the maintenance, upkeep and implementation of new legal stipulations.” Innovative methods are what fascinate Eva Erdmann about her job at OSB AG. Continuous professional development, never failing to learn new things and knowing where the road is leading – these are her personal goals at work. “These things make my work even more exciting. I love this diversity,” she says.

Friendly working environment

Eva Erdmann appreciates diversity and variety in her work at OSB AG. Here, she has the opportunity to work in very different companies and, if necessary, to change the working environment in order to learn something new. Continually facing new challenges – that is what appeals to her. She also enjoys the good teamwork and the friendly atmosphere at OSB AG.

“My profession is more of a male domain, but that has never been a problem for me here,” says Erdmann. This is due to the open and communicative character of OSB employees. “I really love that.” It is thus no wonder that Eva Erdmann, who was born in Munich, gets on very well with many of her colleagues and likes to meet up with them every now and again during her leisure time.

Relaxing in nature

Team spirit is also important to Eva Erdmann in her free time, too. Around five years ago, she began with alpine climbing. Together with her partner, who is likewise a climbing enthusiast, she goes on a climbing vacation at least once a year to Arco, north of Lake Garda. The Gardo Trentino provides many opportunities for practicing this sport, with numerous climbing gardens and via ferrata.

A good state of mind and a knowledge of your own abilities are particularly important – and you need to be able to rely on your partner. “Alpine climbing is only possible in pairs,” says Eva Erdmann. And anyone wishing to soar that high needs strong nerves. A climbing tour such as this takes around two to four hours on steep rocks. The whole thing needs careful planning. For instance, it is important to keep an eye on the weather.

In spite of all this, Eva Erdmann is able to relax when climbing in the great outdoors. “That’s because your mind is only focused on the climbing. You need to concentrate on the next step and secure your partner,” she explains. Relying on others as well as giving and receiving support – that is the same team spirit which Eva Erdmann experiences in her work at OSB AG.
