OSB AG Builds Playground for Refugees in Munich

Around 40 employees swapped their business suits for boiler suits and work gloves to set up a whole range of play areas, including a hill slide, a nest swing, a sandbox as well as a soccer goal and basketball hoop.

“Social Day” has been a tradition at OSB AG since 2009. It is a day in the year when the team sets to work for a good cause. This year’s OSB Social Day involved building a playground for refugee children at refugee accommodation in  Munich. Around 40 employees swapped their business suits for boiler suits and work gloves to set up a whole range of play areas, including a hill slide, a nest swing, a sandbox as well as a soccer goal and basketball hoop. And other helping hands joined us, too, with those living in the refugee accommodation spontaneously pitching in and thereby reinforcing the whole activity as a model of good teamwork.

“We had already made the decision at the beginning of the year to devote this Social Day to refugees,” explains OSB Founder and CEO Denis Sisic – who himself came to Germany from Bosnia in 1992. “And as we assume that the basic needs are covered by the state and other donations, we decided to build a playground to bring a bit of joy into the lives of those who have experienced so much suffering and who need our help.”

For this activity, OSB AG joined forces with the “Good Deed” (German = “Gute Tat”) foundation. Besides the employees giving their time (they “donate” a vacation day or flextime) to take part in Social Day, OSB AG also assumed the entire costs for the project.

There is no doubt that the playground will soon attract lots of children. It has been built at an initial reception center for asylum seekers in Munich. The center accommodates 350 people, including several children. Summarizing the day, Denis Sisic said: “It is great to see the huge difference one team can make in a single day. And the entire team is proud of the fact that children will soon find diversion and joy here.”
